Rocky Mountain Elk, Yellowstone national park
An female elk calf wrinkles her nose in the Madison River Valley. Elk (Cervus elaphus) are the most abundant large mammal in Yellowstone. Elk are both grazers and browsers, feeding on grasses, sedges, shrubs, the bark of aspen trees and conifer needles.
