Horned Puffins, Duck Island, Cook Inlet, Alaska Maritime National WIldlife refuge

A pair of horned puffins stand near their nest. Unlike other puffins which nest in burrows, horned puffins typically nest in rocky crevices and on cliffs. Their nesting choices make their offspring less susceptible to predators, such as the arctiv fox, red fox and Norway rat, than the ofspring of other seabirds.
