Bull Bison, Yellowstone National Park

A bison meanders through the Lamar Valley in winter. Bison males (bulls) weigh up to 2,000 pounds. Females (cows) weigh up to 1,000 pounds. The bison's massive shoulder hump consists of strong muscles that allow it to use its head as a snow removal tool in winter. It swings its large head sideways to uncover grasses to graze on.
